About Kennesha

Kennesha is an educator, advocate, missionary, author, and musician dedicated to strengthening music education in Africa. She partners with NGO orphanages and schools to enhance their creative arts & music curricula and build sustainable, long-term music programs.

Music Education & Creative Integration

Kennesha’s work is driven by the shortage of properly trained music teachers in Kenya, a challenge compounded by chronic underfunding, delayed hiring practices, and teacher stagnation & demotivation. Consequently, since music ceased to be a compulsory exam subject in the national curriculum in 2000, many schools have struggled to maintain consistent programs, resulting in minimal teaching time and limited resources. As a result, music becomes theoretical rather than hands-on practice.

Since 2002, Kennesha has also taught music privately and in group sessions for children and adults, ages 5 to 65+, through local non-profit organizations and as a city employee. Over the years, she saw firsthand how the creative arts and sciences are interwoven in ways that support students through curricula. Growing up, she often heard that if you were good at music, you were good at math. Today, she helps analytical, left-brain learners grasp the technical side of music while guiding right-brain learners to “feel” and express emotion through song. Believing that the creative arts are essential to everyday life, she has committed herself to helping others achieve excellence in their education.

Leadership, Volunteerism & Educational Impact

Her passion for service extends beyond formal teaching roles. Additionally, part of her educational experience included volunteering as an interim Education Department Manager at a local faith-based organization. In this role, she structured a tutorial program for children; coordinated and unified all educational activities; reviewed, developed, ordered, and implemented curriculum for all age groups; and planned and coordinated special educational events. Moreover, she has also tutored numerous children and teenagers, helping them overcome challenges in math and science studies.

Through her initiatives, Kennesha equips schools to sustain their music programs, leverage existing resources, and cultivate resilience and the demand for the arts. Specifically, she is passionate about helping the Republic of Kenya access quality music instruction, affordable modern instruments, and the educational tools needed to restore vibrant music education for future generations.

Kennesha draws on her full range of skills, talents, and abilities to meet needs wherever they arise, extending far beyond the arts. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Technology from Norfolk State University and has a formal background in engineering and technology. Currently serving as a technology and engineering teacher in the public school system, Kennesha integrates social impact and real-world applications into her classes to equip the next generation of problem solvers.

Her heart for service is not confined to a single organization or ministry. She seeks to support communities across Africa in whatever capacity is needed. Whether through education, technology, training, or the arts, Kennesha brings a versatile, solutions-focused approach to every assignment.
